Jockey’s Ridge State Park

Jockey’s Ridge State Park is home to beautiful hiking trails, a handicap accessible boardwalk, beaches and open water for kayaking, windsurfing, swimming and more.

The park features the tallest living sand dune on the Atlantic coast that is the perfect place for a family walk, flying a kite or watching the sunset.

Roanoke Island Festival Park

The Roanoke Island Festival Park will transport you back in time to the first English settlement in America with interactive family attractions including a representational ship, blacksmith demonstrations, woodworking classes, games for kids and much more.

The Roanoke Adventure Museum is also housed in the park and details everything from the early history of the Outer Banks all the way up to recent times.

The park also features the American Indian Town exhibit that will give you a feel of what life was like for Native Americans during the first appearance of English settlers.

Fort Raleigh National Historic Site

Fort Raleigh National Historic Site is located on a portion of England’s first New World settlement, Roanoke, and is where Carolina Algonquians farmed and fished for many years before the English landed. It was also the location of the Freedmen’s Colony which housed freed slaves during the Civil War.

This historical site looks to remember this important history with monuments, a Freedom Trail, ‘The Lost Colony’ theatrical show, Elizabethan Gardens and more.
